Episode #101 |
Ash
Ketchum, a boy from Pallet Town, has just turned ten and is able to begin
his long awaited Pokémon journey. However, he oversleeps the next
morning and misses out on getting a Pokémon from the local expert,
Prof. Oak. However, Oak has one Pokémon left, a Pikachu. Pikachu
isn't too thrilled about having Ash for a trainer, and refuses to go into
its Pokeball. Ash drags Pikachu to the road that leads toward Viridian
City, where he tries to train Pikachu, but Pikachu only ignores him. In
frustration, Ash accidentally upsets a flock of Spearow, which attack him
and Pikachu. They leap into the river and swim downstream to escape, and
are caught by a girl's fishing line. When she pulls them out, Ash "borrows"
her bike to escape the still pursuing Spearow flock. As they race across
an open field, it begins to rain and Ash loses control of the bike and
crashes. Ash tells Pikachu to go inside the Pokeball and prepares to take
whatever the Spearow have coming. Pikachu, seeing how Ash is willing to
sacrifice himself for Pikachu, leaps up into the air and Thundershocks
the entire flock. When Ash wakes up, he sees Pikachu lying next to him,
smiling at him. Ash picks up Pikachu, who gives Ash a kiss on the cheek.
Quotable Quotes "The early bird gets the worm, or in this case, the Pokémon" ~Prof. Oak, after Ash misses out on getting one of the three starting Pokémon "That's your Pokémon?... it looks a little weird" ~Ash's mom, just before Pikachu shocks the crowd "I'll give it back someday!" ~Ash, stealing Misty's bike to escape the Spearow flock. Ash Meets Pikachu Oak: "It's name is Pikachu." Ash: "Oh, it's so cute!" Oak: "You'll see..." Ash: "Hi Pikachu! Pikachu: "Pika..." Pikachu shocks Ash Oak: "It's also known as Electric Mouse. It's usually shy but can sometimes have an electrifying personality." Ash: "I see what you mean." Oak: "Shocking, isn't it?" Did You Notice?... The title of the episode appears on a different background than the rest of the episodes of the series. In the Japanese version of the episode, Misty slaps Ash after she rescues him from the river. During the televised Pokémon match, the trainer in the shadows looks very much like Bruno of the Elite Four Among Ash's many Pokemon toys, he has a Voltorb clock, a Clefairy bank, a Snorlax pillow, a Poliwag pencil sharpener and Zubat wind chimes. Ash breaks his clock at about 4:02 am Noteworthy Misty makes her first appearance, though we won't know her by name until the next episode. Gary claims he got the best Pokémon of all from Oak, but we never do find out if he got a Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle. Who's That Pokémon?: Pikachu! |
